5 Interior Design Ideas

Whether your taste in design is traditional, farmhouse, coastal, modern, transitional, mid-century, or more, below we've put together a collection of five interior design ideas to get your wheels spinning as we head into the spring and summer months!

One of the main reasons we're fans of older homes are the architectural details. Bulls-eye trim, room pillars, arched doorways, and all of those wonderful things that add character to a space that you typically cannot find in homes built today.  One great architectural enhancement would be to add wood beams to a cathedral or vaulted ceiling. These beams add a level of interest, warmth, and charm to your room.

Neutral tones like gray, beige, ivory, tan, etc. are all beautiful colors and certainly serve their purpose in different spaces, but choosing a color like Blue Note from Benjamin Moore, adds a sophisticated out-of-the-box approach to your interior design. Blue is also a very calming shade so it's nice to incorporate into a room where you come to decompress or even in your workspace to add an overall soothing effect.

If you're tired of tile, why not try wide-planked natural wood flooring in your bathroom instead? This can provide a bit of a beachy style and help it to feel more like an extension of the design style in the rest of your home. One bit of advice we'll give is to reserve this for adult bathrooms as wooden floors can easily stain.

Sometimes all it takes is a light fixture to completely bring an entire design together. This Marigot Six-Light Chandelier with Seeded Glass Beads is completely unexpected, adding a victorian and historic flair to this classic bedroom design.

If you don't live in a loft, but want to incorporate exposed brick into your design, a fun and innovative way to accomplish that is through your kitchen backsplash. Herringbone, subway, linear glass, mosaic and hundreds more are all great backsplash options, but the accent brick backsplash called Chicago Bricks is a real head turner! Of course, we're also partial to the name!

No matter your budget, we can help develop your design so that every guest who enters your home or rental property will leave speechless!

Tile Tuesday: 5 Unique Variations

Looking for a fun twist on your floor or wall design? It can be as simple as changing up the rectangular classics we constantly see, to unique variations that are truer to your design style! Check out these five uncommon layout ideas!

Striped

If you want your space to look long and roomy, then just like in fashion, thin stripes in interiors can be used to create long lines, which provides the optical illusion of extra length. If you run the stripes along the longest axis of the room, the result will be a space that looks especially large.

Bands

If you have a narrow room that feels more like a tunnel and you’re looking for some balance, a good option for your tile would be to add bands, which are wide and short. Lay those against the length of the space, and you’ll have enhanced width. Adding in bands can also add some drama to your space without making it looking too busy.

Bordered

Your foyer is home to a very heavy traffic area, so why not consider creating the look of a patterned area rug with tile instead? You can border out the edges and leave a rectangle in the center, which is the only thing your eye will focus on!

Fish Scale

The fish scale pattern is nothing new, however, it always seems to provide a fresh and even exotic feel. It can be achieved as a mosaic of tiny tiles or with tiles cut into a scale shape that are designed to interlock. Use this design to make your space feel like a vacation retreat!

Hexagons

Using hexagon tile can break up stiff right angles from the cabinetry all while adding a visual twist! In general, adding more angles to a pattern will make it feel livelier, which will add a sense of energy and fun!

Small Space with a Big Design

If you've been fortunate enough to experience San Francisco, you'll know exactly what we're talking about when we say that it is an architectural feast for your eyes! Everywhere you turn, you're pleasantly bombarded with configurations of domiciles that literally take your breath away. Whether you've traveled there or not, you may, however, be familiar with the notion that living there is not exactly friendly to your pocket book. The key is to know and understand how to take a small space and give it a big design. We'll take a look at how this tiny brick boiler room that was transformed into a guesthouse by flexing a little creative muscle!

The split level design of this home draws your eyes upward, providing the illusion of a larger space. The ground floor is composed of the kitchen and living-dining room area; the closet and bathroom occupy the mezzanine floor, which can be accessed by a ship's ladder; and the sleeping area is lofted and hovers right over that. Having three floors provides different levels of privacy and gives the sleeping loft more of an alcove feel.

San Francisco isn't the only city with small dwelling spaces, so no matter where you reside, we would love to help give your petite pad a big design! Whether it's 100 or 1,000 square feet, it's about looking for opportunities and experimenting with light, volume, and materials and we can't wait to work with you!
